Overview

OUR STORY

Our Project Mentor is Dr Rupesh Agrawal, an Adjunct Associate Professor from Tan Tock Seng Hospital who specialises in Ophthalmology. He had one specific vision when he started Project i2Eye: to apply technology and empower youths to bring a fresh dimension to deliver healthcare. This would hopefully solve the inequality in global healthcare and build a better, sustainable and scalable system.

With that vision in mind, Project i2Eye was officially founded in 2019.

Project i2Eye first started in Sambalpur, Odisha where we partnered a local eye hospital, Trilochan Netralaya (TN). There, we carried out various health screening modalities ranging from Eye Health to Cardiovascular Health to Cancer risk and Diabetes. Over the span of 9 days, we were able to screen over 1059 villagers and provide them with the necessary follow-up action to ensure continuity of care.

However, we soon found that our activities placed a lot of strain, logistically and financially on TN.

In order to stay true to our mission - "To create a sustainable ecosystem of local stakeholders that is empowered to actively promote the health of the wider society", we had to make the difficult decision to change and source for another partner. Eventually, we moved and formed a partnership with Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya (SNC). This proved to be a wise decision as SNC has the existing infrastructure and staff available for us to form a close partnership with, making our project more sustainable and scalable.

In 2020, with the consultation of SNC, we decided to strengthen our educational efforts, creating targeted campaigns towards prevalent health issues in Chitrakoot such as: Anemia, Communicable Diseases and Tobacco-chewing. This approach allows us to better cater to the needs of the villagers living in Chitrakoot and to effectively serve the Chitrakoot community, allowing us to make a lasting impact on their society.

For 2023, we have decided to make a comeback to Sambalpur, Odisha to reassess the situation post-COVID and continue our service. During our December trip, we hope to set up health screenings as well as educational campaigns.

Our Identity

The name “Project i2Eye” represents one of our founding objectives: To promote general health screening, eye screening, and hospital referral follow-up with the help of technology. The NUS Computing students in our team bring the technical knowledge and skills needed to achieve this objective.

We understand that it is only through extensive partnership with our various stakeholders can we effect sustainable change. To that end, a significant part of our work is devoted towards building relationships with organisations and student volunteers. We need to ensure the long-term sustainability of our interventions, and this is reflected in our project vision, mission, and goals.
